TV: Michael's TV credits are too numerous to list here
but they include: SUSPENSE (1962); DOCTOR WHO (various
stories - BBC 1963-1988); ON THE BUSES (LWT); CLOUD
BURST (BBC 1974); VAN DER VALK (Thames); BLAKE'S 7 (BBC);
THE PROFESSIONALS (LWT); Herr Grunwald in AUF WIEDERSEHEN
PET (Central 1983); Mr Bronson in GRANGE HILL (1985-1989);

FILMS: Among Michael's
film credits were: Sgt Bauer in FORCE TEN FROM NAVARONE;
Agent in LIVE AND LET DIE; Admiral Ozzel in STAR WARS:
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980). He played Hitler eight
times in his career, noteably in INDIANA JONES AND THE
LAST CRUSADE and THE DIRTY DOZEN - SECOND ASSIGNMENT.
ON MAURICE: "Bronson was passionate about
his teaching, but I was adamant that he would never hit a
pupil or do anything like that," Michael told an interview
for GH Online in 2004.There was that time when Roland had
overslept and missed his French Oral and Mr Bronson put his
job on the line to make sure that he was able to do it."
Michael said he based the character on one of his son's teachers.
ON GRANGE HILL: "Well,
actors say never work with children or animals!", adds
Michael, "I thoroughly enjoyed it. Several of the kids
said that they really enjoyed working with me. And I thought
that was very nice. "I did enjoy working with the smaller
actors. Many were hoping Michael would reprise the role of
Bronson; Michael would have said yes to a "reunion"
special, but sadly it was not to be.
FAVOURITE: Michael was well-liked by casting directors
as a dependable, versatile character actor; he gained the
nickname "One Take Mike" through his sheer professionalism.
But Michael thought the term "fan" perjorative and
preferred to think of his admirers as "appreciators".
FAMILY: Born the son
of a minister in Aberdeen, Michael caught the acting bug in
1950 and trained at RADA. Michael and his wife Ros - an artist
- lived on the Isle of Wight with their children, and Michael
is survived by Ros and their sons.
